Xero Australia’s Trent Innes awarded Managing Director of the Year

Xero Australia Managing Director Trent Innes, has been named the IT and Telecommunications Executive of the Year and took home the coveted title of Managing Director of the Year at CEO Magazine’s Executive of the Year Awards.

The event held last night in Melbourne recognises the exceptional contribution made by the CEOs, managing directors, and senior management who drive Australia’s greatest organisations.

Xero’s yearly growth rate — over 40% in both revenue and customers — has shot Xero into the ranks of Australia’s largest listed tech companies. In the financial year through to March 2017, Xero’s Australian subscriber numbers surged to nearly half a million customers with Trent Innes at the helm.

Trent Innes said the milestone is a testament all Xero’s employees, from the developers who build the software and the salespersons who bring in new subscribers to the customer service team.

“I am honored to receive the awards as a way of shining a light on the hard work of all employees at Xero Australia,” Innes said.

Innes said he achieved his two main goals this year: Expand the Australian customer base while maintaining the level of service that has made Xero the best cloud-based accounting platform.

“Improving the business bottom line is an outcome, not a reason for being. Xero is easy-to-use online accounting software that enables small businesses to work more efficiently so they can spend more time growing their business. That mission requires the best technology and passionate employees,” Innes said.

Often times rapid growth can be difficult for some companies to continue while maintaining a culture of excellence, explained Innes

“I tell our employees: customers don’t remember you for 99 percent of what you do. They remember you for the 1 percent, that extra thing you did that made them feel special. That’s the ethos that drives us, and it’s what we aim to deliver every day: an experience that leaves our customers well served and feeling truly understood,” he said.
