What Xerocon means to me | James Webb
As Xerocon inches closer (less than 100 days to go!) we got in touch with some of last year’s award winners to talk everything Xerocon and why they continue to go year after year.
James Webb is the managing director of Link Advisors and won the Xero Bookkeeping Partner of the Year for Queensland in 2016.
What do you enjoy at Xerocon?
I love the atmosphere, all these accountants and bookkeepers getting together in a non-business environment is awesome. Xerocon has provided that change of pace to the industry – to me that’s the big thing. We’ve built our business around Xero, so for Xero to be a fun and energetic company, that’s really cool.
Why do you chose to go?
It’s the event of the year for us. I like to have a lot of fun – last year I broke my leg falling off the stage! You get to let your hair down and celebrate with Xero. The company has been so critical for our success – we believed in Xero and Xero believed in all of us (its partners). This year we’re bringing the whole team to Melbourne. We’ve hired an Airbnb so we can all stay together and experience it as a group. It’s something I want to continue doing because it’s such a good team building opportunity.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had there?
I’ve finally recovered after breaking my tibia and fibula last year, so that was memorable but not really ideal. I immensely enjoyed the last Xerocon in Melbourne – it was the first one I had ever been too. It was electric. It consolidated my thoughts on where the company is going to go and I was a complete believer after that.
What have you learnt at Xerocon?
The one big one we came away with was working with Receipt Bank. Working out which partners you want to work with, talking with them, and getting a feel for the product is great. The product updates are also excellent. The benefit is really learning about the add-on ecosystem and understanding what apps are out there.
How has winning an award at Xerocon helped your business?
It’s good for our reputation and if someone is wondering if we’re on the level. It shows we actually know our stuff. When we’re talking to people who are unsure about our experience, it reinforces that we can do the job and do it well.
Who are you most looking forward to hearing from at Xerocon 2017?
I always love hearing from Rod, he’s inspirational. The team were talking about Magda being up there too, so that’s going to be sensational! It’s always good to have a laugh that’s for sure. Honestly, for us, sharing this experience together is going to be epic for team building. A lot of my team haven’t been before. The fact that we’re all going together means it’ll be memorable one for all of us.
