Think you know people? Top NAB analyst Dean Pearson inspires you to think again at Xerocon Brisbane
As Head of Behavioural Industry Economics at NAB, Dean Pearson leads a team of analysts who monitor key business trends and identify industries with strong growth or risk potential. A sought-after keynote speaker at major business forums, Dean makes complex information easy and entertaining. Here he gives us a sneak peek of his upcoming breakout session at Xerocon Brisbane 2018.
We all think we know people – our clients, friends, even ourselves. However sure we might be, actual human behaviour (and big data) often tells a very different story – and understanding the ‘why’ behind the numbers can have huge benefits for your business.
As a behavioural economist and commentator with almost 30 years’ experience, I’ve worked to debunk the view that humans are rational, clear-thinking beings. What I’ve found is we behave and make choices that are often illogical and based on emotion.
How can behavioural economics help an accountant and bookkeepers?
It’s simple: the better you know your client, the easier it is to find ways to add value to their lives. My research has found, for example, that many advisors misjudge what their clients want from them, and that there are more opportunities to grow your business by giving your clients what they really want – not just what you think they want … or even what they tell you they want.
I’ll also offer some fascinating insights about you and those you care about: why you might feel anxious about the future; how and why your kids are going to change the world; and why you make the spending decisions you do.
Don’t miss my breakout presentation 4pm on day one of Xerocon to find out what human behaviour and big data tell us about the economy, consumers, business and ourselves.
