Alex Sheen to share the power of a promise at Xerocon Atlanta
We all make promises and like to think of our ourselves as people of our word. After losing his father to cancer at a young age, the concept of a promise took on a whole new meaning for Alex Sheen.
Alex wanted to remember his father by the way he lived. So he began sending ‘promise cards’ to people around the world. What started as a simple idea became a viral phenomenon. Alex went on to found ‘because I said I would’. This is an international social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept.
We’re thrilled to have Alex joining us at Xerocon Atlanta as a keynote speaker. Using his life experiences and unique perspectives he will share insights on how to become better at keeping the promises that we make to our clients, our employees, our friends, our family and ourselves.
Alex’s story
At his father’s funeral, Alex gave his eulogy. He described his father as a man of his word, who was always there for him when he needed him. Alex wanted to remember his father by the promises he made to him, his son. It was here that he handed out what he called ‘promise cards’, urging his friends and families to write down promises they wanted to make. He told them to give it to that person as a symbol of their commitment.
He offered to send 10 promise cards out to anyone anywhere in the world. The message clearly resonated with people – Alex’s message quickly went viral. Since his father’s funeral, the because I said I would movement has sent nearly 10 million promise cards to more than 150 countries.
Alex’s belief in the importance of a promise has seen him follow through on some astonishing commitments. He once walked 245 miles across the entire state of Ohio in under 10 days to raise awareness of violence against women. In one year, he volunteered at 52 different nonprofit organizations. He promised children with cancer trips to Disneyland and personally delivered 100 tickets. After Hurricane Sandy, he drove through the night to deliver disaster relief aid to the victims.
Alex is an accomplished speaker – taking to hundreds of stages around the world including TedX. We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the Xerocon stage to share the inspirational stories of the because I said I would movement. In his no doubt thought-provoking session, he will ask attendees to consider the promises they want to make to themselves. Whether it be at work or in their personal lives, they all matter. He encourages audience members to start small because, as he puts it, “the promises that we make, make this world”.
At Xerocon Atlanta, we’ve put together an all-star lineup of speakers designed to give you the tools and insights to take your practice to the next level. We’re excited to be with you on this journey. So get your tickets today and join us!
