Humans of Xero: Dane Grashuis
Welcome to Humans of Xero! It’s a series about some of the awesome humans that work at Xero. We’ll talk a bit about their work, their passions and what makes them tick.
We’d like to introduce you to Dane Grashuis, Associate Campaign Manager. We sat down and had a chat about life in and out of Xero.
Tell us about your role at Xero
I’m an Associate Campaign Manager, so my role involves working with the Sales teams to make sure they have all the marketing support they need. I also spend a lot of time working with the local Sales teams across our cities on all of our grassroots initiatives.
Why did you decide to join Xero?
I had never heard of Xero when I snagged a business card at the Denver Startup Week Job Fair. After doing a quick Google search and a little digging, Xero immediately became the company I wanted to work for. Every review from employees and customers amplified Xero’s mission in a way that seemed incredibly genuine.
What Xero does for small business really resonates with me because I come from an entrepreneurial family and have grown up working in small businesses. Accounting is something that is really important for small businesses and I know how challenging it can be so I was really impressed by how Xero makes it super simple. I also really love that Xero cares about its people as much as its customers and it convinced me that it’s where I wanted to work.
What is it like working at Xero?
Xero really invests in their people and is somewhere you can grow your career. Personal development is a priority so if there’s a specific area of the business you want to work in or a project you’re keen to work on, they will do everything they can to support this.
The culture is really unique and the atmosphere at work is infectious. There is a real sense of all being in it together. We have such a diverse group of people at Xero and everyone works together believing in a common vision that we are doing something bigger than ourselves.
Tell us something #Human about yourself
I’ve worked a lot of odd jobs. I’ve been everything from a professional skier to a janitor and a metal caster. I’ve also worked on farms and lived near the poverty line so there have definitely been highs and lows. I’ve found that all of this bouncing around has been worth it because now I really love and believe in what I do.
