Xero Projects – connecting to more of Xero

As part of Xero, Projects utilizes the power of the entire platform. You wouldn’t duplicate your bank data so why duplicate your time and costs. With the most recent improvements to Xero Projects, and a number of great existing features, we’re working to ensure that you have one single source of truth across all of your data in Xero. When it comes to the jobs you’re working on, that shouldn’t be an exception.

Record staff time, once

With the new Xero Payroll and Xero Projects integration you can now load time recorded in a project directly into Xero Payroll avoiding duplication and ensuring that staff members only record time once and in one place.

For Projects users, they simply need to record their time against a given project as they would usually (the mobile app is a great solution for this). Then, when it comes time to process payroll, the payroll admin (or an employee with payroll access) can copy time recorded to projects directly to the timesheet for that staff member. Simple!

The Xero Projects and Payroll integration is available right now for customers using both add-ons in the Australia and is coming to New Zealand and UK in the next 90 days. Learn more on Xero Central.

Sales credit notes come to Projects

Ever invoiced a customer and then find that you need to return part of the sale? Xero solves this by providing the credit notes functionality but until now you were unable to see this reflected on your project financials.

With the credit notes integration for Xero Projects, when a credit note is issued you can apply the amount to a chosen project. This then automatically updates your project financials so that you will see the invoiced amounts net of any credit notes applied. Learn more on Xero Central.

And, very soon we will be introducing this functionality to supplier credit notes so that your project costs always accurately reflect what you are spending.

Assigning costs to projects

Not quite a new feature but a great way to ensure you’re making the most of the platform. Any costs you incur can easily assigned to a project from the bill or during bank reconciliation. Save yourself the double entry of entering costs to a project and simply pick them up from your existing bills or payments. Learn more on Xero Central.

What’s next?

Customers are seeing real value in the latest iterations of Xero Projects but the product is continuing to evolve. As mentioned above, we will soon have support for supplier credit notes and the payroll integration is coming to UK and NZ. On top of these, we will be releasing a power-up for Atlassian’s Trello so you can post time directly from Trello cards. These changes can be expected in the next 90 days with many more exciting releases to follow.
