Congratulations to our first Darwin gold partner: KHB Bookkeeping

Katherine Haines of KHB has become Xero’s first solely Darwin-based gold partner. By building a thriving practice that offers flexible working conditions for her staff, Katherine has established a business that champions family values.

Xero’s partner program recognises the hard work accountants and bookkeepers do to help small businesses better manage their finances and boost the local economy. Xero’s worldwide network includes over 100,000 business advisors. Consequently, it is an outstanding achievement for KHB to be recognised as an industry leader.

A natural fit

Katherine started KHB Bookkeeping four years ago after taking over the books for her husband’s business. With more than ten years of experience in accounting and financial planning, running her own bookkeeping practice was a natural fit.

Specialising in servicing the small business construction sector has helped the practice grow year-on-year. The full team of four bookkeepers now manages over 85 clients. Katherine says she loves following the journey of local small businesses.

“Being a bookkeeper in small city like Darwin is really rewarding. Teaching small businesses financial literacy through Xero transforms the way they do business and we love being apart of that.”

Flexible working leads to success

Katherine puts her success down to the flexible working conditions she offers. She pays her staff on a task by task basis, which means they can work from anywhere, anytime. She adopted this innovative method not only to encourage efficiency but also to allow staff more quality time with their family. All of the bookkeepers are new mothers who are free to manage their workload around 3am feeds and afternoon sleeps.

“I designed my practice around the type of lifestyle I wanted to lead. I knew as a mum I wanted to be there for my kids and not trapped in the nine-to-five routine. Now we all have the flexibility to be there for our families.”

Xero Australia National Partner Director, Rob Stone, says bookkeepers play a vital part in the small business economy.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and bookkeepers play a major role in helping them stay on top of their numbers. With cloud technology opening up global opportunities, bookkeepers are now more critical than ever to day-to-day business operations.

Big congratulations to Katherine, all the staff at KHB, and the small business community in Darwin, who have all helped the practice reach gold.
