Cycling for a cure
For the second year running Xero staff will don their best lycra shorts and head to the hills in an effort to raise vital funds for Can4Cancer.
The three-day cycling event aims to raise money for cancer research, support and prevention. It was initiated by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and they run it in conjunction with cycling foundation Tour de Cure.
This year, four Xero cycling enthusiasts will join more than 150 riders on a three-day ride all the way from Canberra to Sydney to help increase awareness.
Along the way, the team will visit local primary schools as part of the Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy program. They will also see first-hand the impact fundraising has on local communities affected by cancer.
Meet the team
Neda Tesic, National Account Manager
Neda is passionate about keeping fit and is looking forward to challenging herself with Can4Cancer. She is dedicating her ride to her father. “My dad is the one who taught me how to ride a bike. We spent countless evenings after school, with him pushing me along and giving me encouragement. He has, for the past three years, been battling cancer and this ride is for him.”

Geoffrey Pyman, Partner Consultant Manager
Geoff is one of the more experienced riders in the Xero team having been tackling long-distance rides for over twenty years. He’s excited about competing to support the fight against cancer. “Trent is my biggest competition as far as fundraising goes – just look at his Twitter follower numbers! But Rob is the one I’m worried about from a riding perspective; he’s taken the fitness training seriously, and with him on the starting line, it’s going to be real challenge!”

Rob Stone, National Partner Director
Our only Sydney-sider taking the ride and considered by the others as the dark horse of the group, Rob has been taking his training seriously. He hopes the money raised will continue to help cancer research drive up survival rates. “This fundraising and challenge is a small contribution to the families who have been affected by cancer. In particular, those of my friends and family who have faced it.”
Think Rob will lead the pack? Make sure you donate to his efforts.
Trent Innes, Managing Director
Trent is known around the office as a veteran runner but he goes in for some road cycling too. He’s set himself a high fundraising target of $2000, saying it’s hard to find anyone who hasn’t been impacted by cancer. “Unfortunately it seems to be that everyone I talk these days has had a loved one affected by cancer. For me personally, I lost my mother way too early, three-and-a-half years ago, to ovarian cancer. She was only 67 and had so much living still to do.”

Melbourne joins the ride
As a gold sponsor of Can4Cancer, Xero aims to raise $10,000 in funds. To get behind the cause, staff in the Melbourne office supported our four riders by jumping on the bikes too.
Over 30 people raced in a spin challenge, where participants volunteered to form teams, donate, and give it their all.
It was a tough contest, but team Neda sprinted to a win, cycling 52.2 kms in just under two hours without leaving the office. We topped of the day’s festivities with a team barbeque, all proceeds going to Tour De Cure.
